Editorial verdict

Juniper SRX is built for carrier-grade and hyperscale data centre deployments where raw throughput under full inspection load is the primary requirement. The Junos OS consistency across the entire Juniper networking portfolio, telco-grade high availability clustering, and the highest throughput at scale in the NGFW category make it the right choice for service providers and the world's largest network operators.

The management complexity is the highest in the NGFW category. Juniper SRX requires dedicated Junos expertise and is not appropriate for organisations without trained Juniper engineers. Application-layer visibility depth is also less than Palo Alto Networks.

The verdict: Juniper SRX is right for service providers, carriers, and very large enterprises with dedicated Juniper networking teams that need the highest throughput at scale. Enterprise security teams without Juniper expertise should evaluate Palo Alto Networks or Fortinet FortiGate.
