▪ Editorial verdict
Zscaler Cloud Firewall represents a fundamentally different architectural bet than the appliance-based vendors in this category: policy enforcement happens entirely in the cloud across 150 plus points of presence, applying consistently wherever a user connects from. This eliminates hardware sizing decisions and per-location configuration burden, and the Gartner Magic Quadrant Leader position reflects genuine validation at scale.
The honest reality is this is not a firewall you simply add to an existing network. It requires meaningful adoption of the broader Zscaler Zero Trust Exchange.
The verdict: right for large enterprises adopting cloud-delivered SASE or SSE. SMBs wanting a traditional standalone appliance should evaluate Fortinet FortiGate or Sophos Firewall instead.
